It’s Family

Summerville couple Malinda Fife and her partner Shena-Crocket Fife, are expecting twins any day now. This happy family would not be here without The Fertility Center of Charleston. Explains Malinda Fife, “We started with a phone call, from the first ring it was personable. They were intrigued, engaged and they wanted us to be successful. We started with another place and it was not that way. We felt like a number.”

The Fifes first came to The Fertility Center of Charleston four years ago. Dr. Singleton recommended IUI to the Fifes, a same sex couple. They were successful, and now have 3 year old son Max, soon to be a big brother. Says Malinda, “They made it clear. They made it simple. We could not have done it without Dr. Singleton and the staff.”

Intrauterine insemination, (IUI), frequently referred to as artificial insemination, is a procedure in which sperm are placed directly into the uterine cavity through a catheter near the time of ovulation. This procedure may be performed in combination with ovulation induction to ensure eggs are mature and available during the insemination. Explains Dr. Singleton, “IUI increases the chances of pregnancy because the sperm are placed directly in the uterus, bypassing the cervix and improving the delivery of the sperm to the egg.”

The Fife’s have advice for other couples that want to start a family, “Take the step. It is a journey, it is worth it.” At The Fertility Center of Charleston, Dr. Stephanie Singleton and her staff compassionately guide each patient to parenthood using the latest advanced reproductive technologies.
